Weekly Syllabus

Week of Monday, October 6 through Friday, October 10


This week we will begin the second half of the term.  Now that you have experience with all of the kind of work we are doing in the class, the pace will pick up. As always, if you have questions or just want to talk about the material, you should feel free to conference.


Monday, October 6, 2014 (45 min)

Topic:  Today is the first Monday in October, which means that the Supreme Court's year begins today.  We will discuss some of the big cases they will encounter this year.

Homework:Please read in the case County of Allegheny v. ACLU as follows:

EVERYONE: read the syllabus, the opinion by Justice Blackmun, and the newspaper article.  We will discuss this tomorrow.


Tuesday, October 7, 2014 (50 min)

Topic: Discussion of the case.
Homework: Read the concurring/dissenting opinions in Allegheny by:

Homework:None officially, but you might want to do some thinking about the simulation and/or begin some research about your Justice.
